BioBlitz 2024
The Rotary Club of Port Macquarie will be coordinating its second annual Marine BioBlitz at Shelly Beach on Thursday 16th and Friday 17th May 2024.
The Marine BioBlitz represents a vital initiative to study, appreciate and conserve the marine biodiversity of this stunning coastal region.
Some 200 students from MacKillop College, Hastings Secondary College and the Nature School will take part in the survey, led by scientists visiting from Sydney and Melbourne. For many of these students it is a great opportunity to participate in scientific research whilst promoting a greater awareness of the diversity of marine life on our shores.
This interaction enhances the preservation of our marine ecosystems and fosters a harmonious relationship between humans and the diverse marine species that call Port Macquarie home. To be able to access the rock shelves etc, the research will be carried out between 9.00am and 12.00 noon both days.
We wish to acknowledge the great support received from Port Macquarie Hastings Council in continuing with this initiative.
