Rotary Park
Rotary Park was established in 1956 as a club project along with the observatory which was built in 1960. The park is situated above Town Beach on Stewart St. Over time the park and facilities deteriorated so there was no real attraction to draw the public to use the space.
In 2009 our club in conjunction along the Rotary Club of Port Macquarie West approached the council to rejuvenate the park. After a 3 year consultative process with council and the three Rotary Clubs from Port Macquarie it became part of the councils Foreshore Master Plan.
By January 2013 the following tasks were completed:
- The addition of three shelter sheds and barbecue facility (Council)
- Walking path from south to north which provides access for the disabled. (Council)
- Removal of existing gardens and a new native species garden planted. ( Combined Rotary Clubs)
- Installation of a pergola over the path (Rotary)
- Installation of new playground including fencing and sails for shade protection. (Council)
- Installation of a bottle bubbler (Council)
- Upgrade and repaint of old shelter shed. (Rotary)
- Additional seating (Rotary)
- New Rotary Park sign. (Rotary)
The park is now a busy, happy place that the local community and visitors to Port Macquarie can use.
