John “Jethro” Thomson OAM

Tonight we joined with Westport Rotary Club and many other guests for a moving commemoration of Anzac. Guest speaker was John “Jethro” Thomson OAM ( pictured with President Phil Perry also a Vietnam Veteran). Jethro gave a moving and amusing talk on how he stepped on a jumping jack mine in Vietnam, lost a leg, an arm and several fingers and struggled as a triple amputee in recovery. After 18 months Jethro made a remarkable recovery. Hi driving force was fear – the fear of failure. Jethro married, had seven children and now has many grandchildren.
In a moving ceremony Westport Rotary Club bestowed on Jethro a Paul Harris Fellowship and President Keiren Freeman donated $500 to Jethro’s favourite charity “Mates” and also donated $250- to the local Legacy branch.
Thanks to President Keiren and the members of Rotary Club of Port Macquarie West for a great evening.
